4. The shim thickness is engraved on the shim. Refer to Figure 6-15. Record this value. If the
shim thickness has been modied, measure and record the new shim thickness. Refer to
Figure 6-16.
5. Calculate the current valve stem preload with the following equation:
Valve Stem Preload = Dimension W - Dimension V - Shim Thickness
6. To achieve the desired preload, modify the shim thickness.
