The naming of a speciîš´c device to complete a function.
Asynchronous
Pertaining to two or more processes that do not depend upon the occurrence of speciîš´c events such
as common timing signals.
Attention (notice)
A word for calling attention to the possibility of danger to a program, device, or system, or to data.

Authentication Header (AH)
A member of the IPSec protocol suite. AH guarantees connectionless integrity and data origin
authentication of IP packets.

Bar code
A code that represents characters by sets of parallel bars of varying thickness and separation, which
are read optically by transverse scanning.
Bar code label
Paper bearing a bar code and having an adhesive backing. The bar code label must be afîš´xed to a tape
cartridge to enable the library to identify the cartridge and its volume serial number.
Bar code reader
A laser device that is specialized for scanning and reading bar codes and converting them into either
the ASCII or EBCDIC digital character code.

Decorative and safety cover.
