To start the engine:
1. Turn the ush valve ON before starting the engine by
moving the lever UP. (Figure 4-2)

2. Move the fuel valve to the ON position (right).

To start a cold engine, move the choke lever to
the CLOSED position (left).
To restart a warm engine, leave the choke lever
in the OPEN position (right).
3. Move the throttle lever about 1/3 of the way from the
MIN position (left toward the MAX position).
4. Turn the engine switch to the ON position.
DO NOT allow the starter grip to snap
back against the engine. Return it gently to prevent
damage to the starter.
NOTE: Before using the pull starter, ensure the rope
is not frayed or damaged. A chafed starter
rope can rip and cause injuries.
5. Grasp the recoil starter grip until you feel resistance,
then pull briskly, cranking the engine. Return the
starter grip gently back to its place.
6. If the choke lever was moved to the CLOSED
position to start the engine, gradually move it back
to the OPEN position as the engine warms up.
7. Position the throttle lever for the desired engine
speed.

1. Turn the ush valve ON before starting the engine by
moving the lever UP. (Figure 4-2)
2. Turn the key to the START position and hold until the
engine starts.
If the engine fails to start within ve seconds,
release the key and wait at least 10 seconds to
attempt starting again.
3. When the engine starts, release the key.
NOTE: Using the electric starter more than ve
seconds at a time will overheat the starter
and possible damage it.
If equipped with the optional electric
starter, protect the ignition lock against dirt and
moisture. ALWAYS reinstall the ignition protective
cap after turning off the engine. NEVER remove
the key during operation to prevent damage to
components.
