Stopping the Gas EngineStopping the Gas Engine
To stop the engine in an emergency, simply turn the
engine switch to the OFF position. (Figure 4-1, Page
4-4)
Under normal conditions, use the following procedure to
stop the gas engine.
1. Move throttle lever to the MIN position.
2. Turn the engine switch to the OFF position.
3. Move the fuel valve lever to the OFF position.
4. Move the ush valve lever to the OFF position.
NOTE: If equipped with the optional electric starter,
simply turn off the ignition and remove the
key.
Diesel Engine (Option)Diesel Engine (Option)
DO NOT use biodiesel fuel if equipped
with optional diesel engine.
Before starting the engine for the
rst time (or if the fuel tank is empty), ensure the
fuel tank is completely full before starting the diesel
engine. This allows the fuel system to be “bled”
automatically. (Wait two minutes after lling an
empty fuel tank before starting.)
NOTE: The engine manufacturer recommends
operating the engine for the rst time (or
if out of use for six months or longer) at a
slow speed without load for approximately
20 seconds after starting. This ensures
good lubrication of all bearing points before
increasing speed or load.

Figure 4-4. Diesel Engine Controls
To start the diesel engine:
1. Turn the ush valve ON before starting the engine.
(See Figure 4-2 on Page 4-5)
2. Move the speed control lever halfway between the
STOP and START position. (Figure 4-4)
NOTE: The STOP position is left; the START position
is right.
3. Grasp the recoil starter grip until you feel resistance,
then pull briskly, cranking the engine. Return the
starter grip gently back to its place.
NOTE: If the exhaust emits white smoke, especially
after several failed attempts to start the
engine, move the speed controller back to
the STOP position (left)and repeat the start
procedure.
