The engine inlet air lter assembly uses a replaceable
lter element. A dirty air cleaner restricts air ow and
reduces engine performance, therefore, check and
clean the air lter regularly. Replace the air lter every
year or more if lter becomes damaged or too dirty.
Replace the air lter element more
often than indicated on the Maintenance Schedule
(Page 5-3) if operating in dusty or more severe
conditions.
NEVER operate the engine without an
air lter, or damaged air lter, which allows dirt to
enter the engine. This will cause rapid engine wear
and severe engine damage can occur.

1. Remove the wing nut on top of the air cleaner cover,
then remove cover. (Figure 5-4)
2. Remove the wing nut from the air lter, then remove
the paper air lter element
3. Remove the foam lter.
4. Clean inside the lter housing with a clean, lint-free
cloth.
5. Inspect both air lter elements for dirt or damage.
6. If replacing lter elements:
• Place the new foam air lter element over
the new paper lter element and reinstall
into housing, ensuring the gasket is in place
beneath the air lter assembly.
7. Discard lters properly.
8. If cleaning the air lter elements:
• Paper Element:
Tap the element
several times on
a hard surface to
dislodge dirt, or
gently blow from
the inside with
compressed air.
DO NOT brush
off dirt as this
forces dirt into the
bers.
• Foam Element:
Clean in warm,
soapy water (or
non-ammable
solvent), rinse
and allow to dry
thoroughly. When
dry, dip the element
into clean engine
oil, then squeeze
out excess oil (the
engine will smoke if
too much oil is left
in the foam).
• Reinstall lters as
described in Step
6.
