1. Unscrew the air lter cover cap and remove cover.
(Figure 5-5)
2. Unscrew the air lter cartridge nut and remove
cartridge.
3. Clean inside the lter housing with a clean, lint-free
cloth, taking care not to allow dirt or dust into the
intake opening.
4. Inspect both air lter elements for dirt or damage.
5. If replacing lter elements:
• Insert new lter cartridge, disposing of used
lter cartridge properly.
6. If cleaning air lter element:
• Tap the element several times on a hard surface
to dislodge dirt, or gently blow from the inside
with compressed air. DO NOT brush off dirt as
this forces dirt into the bers.
• Reinstall as described in Step 5.
7. Reinstall cover and tighten cover cap securely.
8. Start the engine and check that it runs smoothly.
Spark PlugSpark Plug
The gas engine is equipped with a spark plug, which
must be properly gapped and free of deposits for
optimum engine performance. The engine manufacturer
recommends BPR6ES (NGK) or W20EPR-U (DENSO)
spark plugs for this engine.
An incorrect or loose spark plug can
cause engine damage.
1. Disconnect the spark plug cap and clean the area
around it.
2. Using a 13/16 spark plug wrench, remove the spark
plug.
3. Inspect the spark plug, paying close attention to
whether the sealing washer or electrode is worn or
damaged. If not satised with spark plug condition,
discard and replace with new spark plug.
4. Measure the spark plug electrode gap with a
wire feeler gauge. Correct the gap is needed by
carefully bending the side electrode. The gap
should be .028 - .031 inches (.70 - .80 millimeters).

5. Carefully reinstall the spark plug by hand to avoid
cross-threading.
NOTE: Overtightening the spark plug can damage
threads in the cylinder head.
6. Tighten with the spark plug wrench to compress the
sealing washer.
7. Reattach the spark plug cap to the spark plug.
