Damage Description Cause Replacement
Flattening (1) Crushed areas,
mostly with wire
breaks.
Mechanical damage,
e.g. due to driving
over the rope.
Determine number of wire
breaks; replace rope immedi-
ately if serious crushing has
occurred.
Kinks (2) Rope deformation
with twists and
wire breaks.
Rope in the eyelets
was pulled straight
while twisted.
Replace the rope immediately.
Buckling (3) Buckled section in
the rope.
Mechanical damage. Replace the rope immediately.
Crinkling (4) Crinkling rope
deformation.
Loaded rope was
pulled over an edge.
Replace the rope immediately.
