EXAMPLE 3 - DISTANCE MEASUREMENT
This mode of operation may be used for marine port container crane proximity monitoring.
For this example we’ll assume the following:
» the maximum crane speed 2.8 m/s., (5.6 m/s combined approach speed for two cranes).
» an indication is required when another crane is detected within 31 m (in front or behind).
» the crane drive is to be disabled in the direction of another crane detected within 16 m.
» an XLS-60 transducer is mounted

facing the forward direction.
» another XLS-60 transducer is mounted

on the opposite side, facing the reverse direction.
» the forward facing XLS-60 is Transducer 1, the reverse facing XLS-60 is Transducer 2.

When an XLS (or XLT) transducer is mounted horizontally, install a support plate under the transducer
to prevent possible mounting / conduit connection damage.
(Optionally, additional control equipment may be used to disable transducers when the crane is not in
motion and only fire the transducer associated with the direction of crane travel).
