Setup and Operation 2-13
Table Section 2-2 Advanced CMOS Setup Parameters
Parameter Options Description
Disable Shadow
Memory Base
C0000h
C4000h
C8000h
CC000h
D0000h
D4000h
D8000h
DC000h
This selection changes the location of the non-shadowed
memory. Selection of the option will affect the settings
under “Disable Shadow Memory Size.” C0000h is the
default setting.
Base Memory
Size
640 KB
512 KB
This selection sets base memory at 640 KB (default
setting) or 512 KB.
IDE DMA
Transfer
Mode
Disabled
Standard
Type B
Type F
Disabled is the default setting. Choose Standard, Type B
or Type F for IDE DMA transfers. Type F is the fastest
DMA transfer mode. Before selecting, check the hard
disk documentation to see if this parameter is supported.
IDE Multiple
Sector Mode
Disabled
1 S/B
2 S/B
4 S/B
8 S/B
16 S/B
32 S/B
64 S/B
Disabled is the default setting, and couples this mode
with the IDE DMA Transfer Mode parameter. Choose one
of the sectors per block (S/B) settings to set IDE
programmed I/O cycles so that multiple sectors are
transferred in a single block. The 64 S/B setting is the
maximum burst size supported by a hard drive. Check
the hard disk documentation to see which setting
provides the optimum performance.
IDE Translation
Mode
Std CHS
LBA
Ext CHS
Auto
This parameter affects all ISA IDE and PCI devices.
Standard (Std) cylinder head sector (CHS) is the default
setting. The Std CHS setting provides head, cylinder, and
sector values to the drive. The Logical Block Addressing
(LBA) option provides a 28 bit sector identifier to
supported drives and is based on the ATA Specification.
LBA overcomes limitations imposed by the Int 13H BIOS
interface and the Standard CHS IDE access.
The Extended (Ext) CHS option allows access to drives
with more than 1024 cylinders and overcomes some of
the limitations imposed by the Int 13H BIOS interface.
The option is transparent to the drive. The Auto option
chooses one of the above translation options. The first
choice is LBA if supported by the drive. The second
choice is Ext CHS if supported by the drive. If neither
option is chosen, then Auto selects Std CHS. Note that if
the drive was formatted with custom parameters and
Auto is selected, the drive may not boot. If this occurs,
select the Std CHS option.
IDE Controller
Pre-Delay
Disabled
1, 2, 3, 4,
5, 6, or 7
seconds
Disabled is the default setting. If the system locks on
POST, it may be caused by the drive not coming up to
speed fast enough. If this occurs, increase the pre-delay
time as necessary.
