5. Remove transmission position sensor

6. Remove five fasteners
r
and remove rear
transmission cover.
7. Remove detent spring, detent pawl and detent star.
Note the master spline on the detent star and the shift
shaft.
NOTICE
External shift mechanism can be serviced in the vehicle
without removal of the engine/transmission.
8. Remove the two sector gears.
NOTICE
Note the timing marks on the shift gears for reassembly
purposes.
9. Lift up on the shift shaft rail and move the rail
assembly rearward to allow the shift fork pins to be
removed from the shift drum

. Remove the shift
drum from the transmission housing.
10.Remove the shift shaft and forks as an assembly.
