General Notes About Installing Battery Cabinets
Each battery cabinet is packed and crated separately for shipping. You should
unpack and inspect each cabinet, roll it to its final position, and join it to the UPS or
other cabinets (see Chapter 5) before installing wiring.
These general installation notes apply to either the Type 1 battery or the Type 2
battery:

Do not tilt battery cabinets more than
2
10’ during installation.

The recommended minimum clearance over each battery cabinet is
304.0 mm (12 in.).

The conduit landing plates are removable, to add conduit landing holes as
required. Plate material is 11 gauge steel
(.I20
inches thick).
l
Control wiring must be installed in separate conduit from the power wiring.
l
Each battery cabinet can be installed as a stand-alone unit or as part of a
redundant line-upand-match system.
l
The nominal battery string voltage for
50
Hz models is 420 VDC (210 ceils).
The nominal
voftage
for SO
Hz
models is 480 VDC (240 cells).

The output voltage balance is

for
100%
maximum load imbalance.

The battery breaker in the Type 2 battery cabinet is rated at 400A and
20,000 AIC at 500 MC. The battery breaker in the Type 1 battery cabinet is
rated at 225A and 1

AIC at 500
VDC.
The breaker instantaneous trip
must remain set at
minimum
(full counterclockwise).
The following installation information is grouped into two sections, one for each
model of battery cabinet Use the instructions for the cabinet(s) you purchased.
If you are
instailing
a battery cabinet that was not provided by the UPS
manufacturer, refer to the battery cabinet manufacturer’s operating manual for
instructions on battery cabinet
installation
and maintenance.
