Connecting the System to Power
Once all the system cables are connected, you can connect the system to the vehicle
power.
These procedures should be viewed as basic guidelines. They do not cover all levels
of integration into existing entertainment systems. Your application may require a
different approach depending on existing vehicle accessories.
Before attempting to connect the system to power, ensure that the
vehicle is turned off and that the negative terminal is disconnected
from the battery. Failure to do so may cause electrical shock, fire or
personal injury.
Only a trained and experienced technician in automotive electrical
systems familiar with the type of vehicle should attempt power
cable connection.
The following procedure MUST be completed ONLY with a digital
multi-meter (DMM). Failure to do so could result in serious injury,
damage, airbag deployment, or a short circuit.
To connect the system to switched/accessory power:
1. Locate a suitable ground, such as a bolt attached to the vehicle’s frame, and
attach the negative (black) wire from the ACU power plug to this location.
The power cable should NOT be connected to the ACU at this time.
2. Locate a switched 12V accessory wire (12/24V on a bus) that is at least 14AWG.
This is typically found in the steering column or leading into the fuse panel.
Wires sheathed in brightly colored plastic/PVC, usually yellow or
orange indicate airbag circuits. Do NOT disturb these wires. If in
doubt, call Customer Service before continuing.
3. Verify with a DMM that the 12V accessory wire reads:
o at least 11V in the accessory position
o 0.00V when starting the vehicle
o 13.2V to 14.8V while the engine is running.
This will confirm that you have located the switched accessory wire.
4. Make sure that the vehicle is turned off. Remove the negative cable from the
battery. Verify total disconnection by attaching the DMM to both battery posts
to get a reading of 0.00V.
