is2³²=4294967296=4,096MB=4GB,allofitcannot
beallocatedtomemory,assomeofitneedstobeused
forotherpurposesbytheoperatingsystem.Because
approximately1GBofaddressspaceneedstobeallocated
toothersystemresourcessuchastheBIOS,PCIDevice,
andVGAforaPCtooperatenormally.Therefore,evenif
4GBofphysicalmemoryisinstalled,theaddressspace
allocatedtomemoryislimitedtoapproximately3GB.
Althoughuserscanupgradetheirmemoryto3or4GB,
only3GBisrecognizedevenwhen4GBofmemory
isinstalled,andamemoryupgradeto4GBisnot
recommended.
