alsobeinstalledusinganacceptablemethodof
connection.Insomecases,theinsidewiringassociated
withasingle-lineindividualservicemaybeextendedby
meansofacertiedconnectorassembly.Thecustomer
shouldbeawarethatcompliancewiththeabove
conditions may not prevent degradation of service in
some situations.
Repairs
tocertiedequipmentshouldbemadebyan
authorizedCanadianmaintenancefacilitydesignated
bythesupplier.Anyrepairsoralterationsmadebythe
usertothisequipment,orequipmentmalfunctions,may
give the telecommunications company cause to request
the user to disconnect the equipment.
Users
shouldmakesure,fortheirownprotection,that
theelectricalgroundconnectionsofthepowerutility,
telephonelines,andinternalmetallicwaterpipesystem,if
present,areconnectedtogether.Thisprecautionmaybe
particularly important in rural areas.

The Ringer Equivalence Number(REN)assignedto
eachterminaldeviceprovidesanindicationofthemaxi-
mumnumberofterminalsallowedtobeconnectedtoa
telephone interface. The termination on an interface may
consistofanycombinationofdevicessubjectonlytothe
requirementthatthesumoftheRingerEquivalenceNum-
bersofallthedevicesdoesnotexceed5.
