Operation
Before Operation
Before Operation Safety
General Safety
Never allow children or untrained people to
operate or service the machine. Local regulations
may restrict the age of the operator . The owner
is responsible for training all operators and
mechanics.
Become familiar with the safe operation of the
equipment, operator controls, and safety signs.
Shut of f the engine, remove the key , and wait
for all movement to stop before you leave the
operator s position. Allow the machine to cool
before adjusting, servicing, cleaning, or storing it.
Know how to stop the machine and shut of f the
engine quickly .
Check that operator-presence controls, safety
switches, and guards are attached and functioning
properly . Do not operate the machine unless they
are functioning properly .
Before mowing, always inspect the machine to
ensure that the blades, blade bolts, and cutting
assemblies are in good working condition.
Replace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets
to preserve balance.
Inspect the area where you will use the machine
and remove all objects that the machine could
throw .
Fuel Safety
Use extreme care in handling fuel. It is ammable
and its vapors are explosive.
Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and other
sources of ignition.
Use only an approved fuel container .
Do not remove the fuel cap or ll the fuel tank
while the engine is running or hot.
Do not add or drain fuel in an enclosed space.
Do not store the machine or fuel container where
there is an open ame, spark, or pilot light, such
as on a water heater or other appliance.
If you spill fuel, do not attempt to start the engine;
avoid creating any source of ignition until the fuel
vapors have dissipated.
Checking the Machine Daily
Check the following machine systems each day
before operating the machine:
Air-cleaner indicator ; refer to Servicing the Air
Cleaner ( page 55 )
Engine oil ; refer to Checking the Engine-Oil Level
( page 53 )
Coolant system ; refer to Checking the Cooling
System and Coolant Level ( page 63 )
Hood screen and radiator ; refer to Checking the
Cooling Fins ( page 64 )
Hydraulic system ; refer to Checking the
Hydraulic-Fluid Level ( page 69 )
PT O-shaft grease points ; refer to Greasing the
Bearings and Bushings ( page 51 )
Checking the T ire Air
Pressure
Service Interval : Before each use or daily
T ire air pressure specication (2-wheel-drive
machines):
Front tires: 138 kPa (20 psi)
Rear tires: 193 kPa (28 psi)
T ire air pressure specication (4-wheel-drive
machines): 138 kPa (20 psi)
DANGER
Low tire pressure decreases machine side-hill
stability . This could cause a rollover , which
may result in personal injury or death.
Do not underinate the tires.
Check the air pressure in the front and rear tires. Add
or remove air as needed to set the air pressure in the
tires to the tire air pressure specication.
Important: Maintain pressure in all tires to
ensure a good quality of cut and proper machine
performance.
Check the air pressure in all the tires before
operating the machine.
