Thistestdeterminesifawheelmotorhasexcessiveinternalleakageandwear.
Note:Overaperiodoftime,awheelmotorcanwearinternally.Awornmotor
maybypassthehydraulicuidtoitscasedrainthatreducesthemotorefciency.
Aftersometime,sufcientuidlosscausesthewheelmotortostallunder
heavyloadconditions.Continuedoperationwithaworn,inefcientmotorcan
generateexcessiveheat,causedamagetothesealsandothercomponentsin
thehydraulicsystemandaffectoverallmachineperformance.
TestProcedure
1.Ensurethatthehydraulicuidisatnormaloperatingtemperature.
2.EnsurethatthetractiondriveiscorrectlyadjustedfortheNEUTRALposition.
WARNING
Beforedisconnectingordoinganyworkonthehydraulicsystem,
releaseallthepressureinthesystem;refertoReleasingPressure
fromtheHydraulicSystem(page4–11).
3.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdeck(orimplement),
shutofftheengine,andsettheparkingbrake.
4.ReadallWarning,Cautions,andprecautionslistedatthebeginningofthis
section.
5.Attachaheavychaintotherearofthemachineframeandanimmovable
objecttopreventthemachinefrommovingduringtesting.Asanalternative,
raisethemachineandsupportitwithjackstandssothatthe2rearwheels
areofftheground.
6.Disconnectthewireharnessconnectorfromtheparkingbrakesensor;refer
totheParkingBrakeSensor(page5–33).Installajumperwireacrossthe
harnessconnectorterminalsandsettheparkingbraketoallowtraction
circuitoperation.
7.Cleanthetransmissionareaaroundthetractioncircuithosesonthetopof
thetransmission(Figure43).Determinewhichwheelmotoristobetested.
8.Disconnectthehydraulichosefromthetransmissionpumpoutletttingto
testthewheelmotor(Figure43):

9.Installahydraulictester(pressureandow)inseriesbetweenthepump
outletttinganddisconnectedhose.Ensurethatthetesterowarrowpoints
fromthepumpoutletandtowardthehose.Ensurethattheowcontrolvalve
onthetesterisfullyopen.
10.Starttheengineandrunitatlow-idlespeed(1,400rpm).Checkfor
hydraulic-uidleaksfromtestconnectionsandcorrectbeforecontinuing
thetest.
