Troubleshooting workstation application problems
Error 1706 after installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
Symptom: The following error occurs while installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express
Edition as part of the Recording Archive Service installation process (as described on page
10-8.)
“Error 1706: An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package
‘sqlncli.msi’.”
Solution:
1. Download the following file from the Microsoft Download Center:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/4/D/44DBDE61-B385-4FC2-A67D-48053B
8F9FAD/sqlncli.msi
2. In the Windows Control Panel, go to
Add or Remove Programs.
3. Scroll to
Microsoft SQL Native Client and uninstall it.
4. Run
sqlncli.msi.
5. Reinstall Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, as described on page 10-8.
