Video Editing
About Video Editing
Video editing translates raw camcorder footage into polished, professional
productions you’ll be proud to show. It usually involves two aspects: Remov-
ing unwanted footage and adding elements, such as titles and effects.
While film is edited by cutting and splicing lengths of film, videotape can-
not be practically spliced. So video editing is done by selective copying. The
raw footageis played by onemachine and a separate VCRrecords the results
on a new tape. The two machines are controlled, either by hand or automati-
cally, tomake sure the final tape contains justthe scenes you want. An editing
system, such as Videonics Thumbs Up or Edit Suite, is often used to control
thetape machines, makingsure thecorrect scenesend up inthe correctplace.
Whether you edit manually or automatically, the techniques for adding titles
are similar.
