1 Discharged vehicle battery
2 Red jumper cable (positive terminal)
3 Charged, current-generating vehicle battery; external power pack
4 Black jumper cable (ground point)
An undercharged battery cannot provide the starting motor with sufficient
power to prevent the engine from starting. Jump-starting the engine is
possible. Follow these instructions.
Connect jumper cable and start engine
1. Drive the vehicle used for jump-starting up to the vehicle.
ð The distance depends on the length of the jumper cable.
2. Run the engine from the vehicle supplying the power.
3. First connect the red jumper cable 2 to the positive terminal of the
discharged battery 1.
4. Connect the other end of the red jumper cable 2 to the positive ter-
minal of the battery 3.
5. First connect the black jumper cable 4 to the negative terminal of
the battery supplying the power 3.
6. Connect the other end of the black jumper cable to the engine block
or a metal part firmly screwed to the engine block.
7. Start the engine of the vehicle with the empty battery.
Once the engine has started
1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the engine block of the
vehicle receiving power.
2. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery of the vehicle sup-
plying power.
3. Disconnect the positive terminal from the battery of the vehicle sup-
plying the power.
4. Disconnect the positive terminal from the battery of the vehicle re-
ceiving the power.
5. Replace removed battery terminal covers.
