Starting the engine

The ignition lock is located on the right of the steering column.
Start the engine as follows:
ü Parking brake of the vehicle is activated.
1. Insert the starting key in the ignition lock.
ð Position 0 – no operating voltage.
2. Turn the starting key to positionI.
ð All warning lights and control lights illuminate for self-test.
3. Wait until the control light
goes out.
4. Turn the starting key via the resistor to position II.
ð The starting motor is actuated - the engine starts.
5. Release the starting key as soon as the engine starts.
ð The starting key returns to position I.
ð The control lights must go out.

Preheats the engine
Preheating is started automatically when the starting key is turned to pos-
ition I.
• Above 0 °C outside temperature, the preheating process takes ap-
prox. five to ten seconds.
• Below 0 °C, the preheating process takes approx. 15 - 60 seconds.
The preheating process is completed as soon as the control light
in
the display goes out.
Start the engine as soon as the control light
goes out.
