Drive shaft and lower case
Checking the pinion and forward
gear
1. Check the teeth of pinion. Check the
teeth and dogs of forward gear. Replace
the pinion and forward gear if cracked or
worn.
Checking the drive shaft
1. Check the drive shaft spline. Replace the
drive shaft if bent or worn.
2. Measure the drive shaft runout.
Checking the lower case
1. Check the skeg, cavitation plate and tor-
pedo. Replace the lower case if cracked
or damaged.
Assembling the forward gear
1. Install a new taper roller bearing into the
forward gear using a press.
Runout limit: 1.0 mm (0.039 in)

drive shaft using a press.
