AfterMLDisenabledontheinterfacesifmulticastroutersinasharedsegment,an
optimalinterfacewillbeelectedasthequerierofthesegmenttoobtaingroupmember
informationbysendingquerymessages.
Aftersendingaquerymessage,thequerierwaitsforaperiodtoreceivethereport
messagesfrommemberhosts.Theperiodisthevalueofthemaximumresponse
timecontainedinthequerymessages.Bydefault,theperiodis10seconds.
Afterreceivingthequerymessage,amemberhostinthesegmentwillsubtracta
randomvalueonthebasisofthemaximumresponsetime.Itusestheresultasits
responsetime.Ifthequerierreceivesareportmessagefromanothermemberhost
duringthisperiod,thehostcancelstosendareportmessage.Ifthequerierdoesnot
receiveanyreportmessagefromanyothermemberhostswhentheperiodexpires,
thememberhostwillsendareportmessage.Increasingthemaximumresponsetime
alsoincreasesthewaitchancesofgroupmembersinthesegment,andreducesthe
ratethatseveralhostssendreportmessagesinthesegment.
