Upgrading software using ACLI
You can download the switch software image that is in nonvolatile flash memory. To download the
software image, a properly configured Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server must be present
in your network, and the Ethernet Routing Switch 3500 Series must have an IP address.
Caution:
Do not interrupt power to the device during the software download process. A power interruption
can corrupt the firmware image.
Upgrading switch software
You can upgrade both the switch software image and the diagnostics image.
Important:
Unless the no-reset option is selected, the system resets after downloading a new image.
Procedure
1. Enter Privileged EXEC mode:
enable
2. At the command prompt, enter the following command:
download [address <ip>] {image <image-name>|image-if-newer <image-
name>|diag <filename> [no-reset] | poe-module-image }
Important:
You can use the download command without parameters. The system displays the
most recently used TFTP server IP address and file name; if you still want to use these,
press Enter. You can also change these.
The software download process automatically completes without user intervention. The
process erases the contents of flash memory and replaces it with a new software image.
Take care not to interrupt the download process until after it runs to completion (the process
can take up to 10 minutes, depending on network conditions).
