Appendix F: Configuring a Virtual Serial Port
The MergePoint SP manager has the ability to access SPs with iLO through the Virtual Serial
port. To use this feature, you must enable the Virtual Serial port on both the BIOS Serial
Console and EMS Console. When the Virtual Serial port is enabled, it provides remote access
through the iLO management controller to the BIOS Serial Console.
To configure BIOS Serial Console:
1. Enter ROM-Based Setup Utility by pressing F9 during power up or system reset.
2. Select BIOS Serial Console and EMS on the main menu and press Enter to display the
options.
3. Select BIOS Serial Console Port, then press Enter to display the options.
4. Select Com1 or Com2 as the BIOS Serial Console Port and press Enter to save the
selection.
To configure EMS Console:
1. Enter ROM-Based Setup Utility by pressing F9 during power up or system reset.
2. Select BIOS Serial Console and EMS on the main menu and press Enter to display the
options.
3. Select EMS Console, then press Enter to display the options.
4. Select the same port that you selected for the BIOS Serial Console Port and press Enter to
save the selection.
