About PEAP
PEAP (Protected E xtensible Authentication Protocol) is an EA P implementation co-developed by Cisco S ystems , Microsoft and RSA
Security. It sets up a secure TLS tunnel using the servers CA certificate after which ac tual user authentication takes place within
the tunnel. This way of wor king enables it to use the security of TLS while authenticating the user but without the need for a PKI.
Which actual method is used to authenticate w ithin the tunnel is not mandated by the standard. B ut throughout the docum entation
when talking about PEAP we are referring to PEAPv0 with EAP-MSCHA Pv 2 as the inner authentication method. T his is one of the
two certified PE AP implementations in the WPA and WPA2 standards and by far the most common and widespread implem entation
of PEAP.
