OFF-CENTER LOAD CAPACITY
(LEFT-TO-RIGHT)
Most forming and punching jobs are located on the
centerline of the machine where full rated machine
capacity is available. When the load is not located
at the center of the machine, only a portion of the
total capacity is available as shown in Figure 4-7.
For example, a 400 FM Hydraulic Press Brake has
100% - 400 tons (3,559kN) of its rating available for
bending at the centerline of the machine. At either
housing, regardless of length, only 50% of the ton-
nage - 200 tons (1,779kN) is available.
To determine the available tonnage at a point
between the centerline and either housing, the
ratios shown in Figure 4-7 can be used. For exam-
ple, a 400 FM x 10’ Press Brake is approximately
126” (3,200.4mm) from housing to housing (L). A
point at .3 of this length is 37.8” (960.1mm) (.3 x
126”/3,200.4mm). Then at 37.8” (960.1mm) from
the centerline of the machine 62% (248
tons/2,206kN) of the tonnage is available.
