If the operator is entering a new program, the
PROG: name field will be highlighted and after each
entry the next field will be highlighted. If the oper-
ator is editing an existing program the field will not
advance automatically. The highlighted field will be
the last field which was edited before exiting the
JOB DATA screen. To advance between fields, use
the up and down arrow keys. To change a value,
use either the numeric keypad, the TRN key or the
softkeys, as appropriate. When entering a numeric
value, the new entry will change in place as digits
are typed on the keypad. Pressing ENT will accept
the new entry. If either the up or down arrow key is
pressed prior to ENT, the original value will be
unchanged. Softkey selections always replace the
current value without the need to press ENT.
PROGRAM NAME: Up to an 8 character name may
be associated with this program. The name may
consist of either numeric digits 0-9, alpha charac-
ters A-Z, or the _ and the -. To enter an alpha char-
acter press either the + or - key first. Each time one
of these keys is pressed the alpha character will be
incremented or decremented beginning with A (i.e.:
a rotating wheel A-Z, and special characters _, -, +,
*). Press the TRN key to accept the alpha character
and move to the next character of the name. Press-
ing a digit (0-9) will cancel the alpha entry and will
accept the digit as the next character of the name.
Press ENT to accept the name. The default for Pro-
gram Name is an empty field.
IMPORTANT: The + and/or * cannot be used in
MS-DOS filenames. Using these characters
will cause problems if the files are sent
offline.
ANGLE MODE
The FM Press Brake has an ANGLE MODE reversal
feature that allows the operator to enter a desired
bend angle. The Control automatically calculates
the bottom reversal position. This makes the FM
easy to use and can greatly reduce set up time for
new parts.
GUIDELINES
1. Angle Mode Reversal is recommended for true
air bending. Angle Mode should not be used
when bottoming.
2. Good quality, precision air bend dies are rec-
ommended. Badly worn or damaged tooling
should not be used.
3. It is suggested both the upper and lower dies be
“true” air bend tooling. For best results, they
must have adequate clearance for the desired
bend, allowing for both springback and at least
an additional 5° of clearance.
For example: If the desired bend angle is 90°
and the material springback factor is 10°, the
die angle (upper and lower) must be 75° or
smaller (90° -10° -5° = 75°).
4. Vee openings and upper die radii should follow
the guidelines recommended in CINCINNATI
INCORPORATED’s booklet Pr
ess Brake Capaci-
ties, PT-50691. For mild steel, the vee opening
should be 8 to 10 times material thickness and
the upper die radius should be equal to or
slightly smaller than material thickness.
5. Only one tool set can be entered per program in
ANGLE mode. In a multiple step program, all
steps which use angle mode must use the same
set of dies.
ANGLE MODE: If one or more steps in the pro-
gram will be using angle mode, this field should
be selected ON. If angle mode will not be used,
then select OFF. Selecting OFF will not prevent
the operator from using angle mode at a later
time. Softkeys will appear to allow the ON or
OFF entries. If the user selects ON, then the fol-
lowing fields will appear on the JOB DATA
screen: MATERIAL THICKNESS, VEE OPEN-
ING, LOWER DIE ANGLE, TOP OF MATERIAL.
Selecting OFF will eliminate the above fields
from the display as shown.
