METAL DETECTOR DIAGNOSTIC SHORT PROCEDURE
Use this list to quickly diagnose the majority of problems
related to the metal detector. For a more complete de-
scription and analysis in the event a problem cannot be
solved, refer to the FH0702 (or subsequent version) ser-
vice bulletin.
Before analyzing the problem, make sure:
Wiring:
Battery cables are tightly connected, clean and
rust free.
The control box is connected and connectors
are clean.
The connector between the tractor and Forage
Harvester is clean, rust free and all rods are
properly aligned.
Tighten all cables and check connections in
the tractor’s control box.
Forage Harvesters electronic circuit:
Green connectors are clean, rust free and
properly tighten.
A minimum of 12V is measured at the power
entry between white and green wires.
Sensor:
When transmission is switched to NEUTRAL,
the S1 sensor is turned on.
When transmission is switched to FORWARD,
S1 and S2 sensors are turned on.
Detection sensor (antenna):
Disconnect wires on sensor (#1, 2 and 3).
Resistance between the white and black wires (or
red and black) is approximately 900 to 960 Ohm (do
not touch the wires with ngers).
Solenoid:
The solenoid is properly connected, wires are
shielded and piston is free to move.
The chain on the solenoid is properly adjusted.
See ADJUSTMENTS - MAINTENANCE
section (page 102)
Check solenoid coils (page 102).
PROBLEMS:
Problem 1 : Impossible to initialize the system or to
switch it to the forward position.
With tractor engine switched off, disconnect
the detection sensor (antenna), and try again.
Check resistance on sensor, wire condition or
the presence of an external magnetic eld.
Update, repair or replace electronic card.
Problem 2: False detection or random and frequent
stops.
The feed roll is well secured and in good
condition.
The shock absorbers on the rolls are in good
condition.
When machine is off, initialize the system and
hit detector roll with a piece of wood. If a
detection occurs, replace a bearing in the
detection roll or check for faulty antenna.
Check bolts on detection roll (stainless, non-
magnetic bolts only)
Remove detection roll and remove any metal
debris inside.
The solenoid is well adjusted.
The transmission sensors are positioned
properly and tighten.
Wires are free and not pinched.
Replace electronic card.
Problem 3: The system won’t detect or does not detect
properly during static tests.
Check and clean connections; check wires and
cables.
Check detection sensor (antenna).
Replace electronic card.
