cable; if this gives an increa se in the rotational speed, the adjust-
ment may be cons id ere d finished.
Follo wing that, adjust the carburettors for synchronous opera tion
of the cyl ind ers in the o rder given below:
start the e ngin e and adjust it for operation at 1500 to 1800 r.p.m.
(with th e spee dom ete r reading 40 km/hr in the fourth gear);
by alternately sw itc hing off each of lhe cylinders, ensure (by re-
ferring to the speedometer) thal the engine de\·elops the same speed
when
operating alone cy l inder.
The car bur elto rs are adjusted by rot a ting the union s on th e car-
buretlor cove1·s and thus lifting or lowering th e throttle until the
sa me speed r ead in gs are obtained.
On comp l et ing the ad ju stme nt fo r sy nchronous operation, secure
i.he unions in th e set position. During running-in of the engine,
check the following:
absence of oil lea kage at lhe joints;
abse nce of extraneous noi ses ;
abse nce of loca I heating;
operation of the engine al various speeds and loads. Eliminate
th e det ecte d fault s, if any.
