Wash the cover assembly and

Dismanlling and assembling of

anatio n. When replacing (pres-

Check the part s pre sse d inlo the cas ing for good cond ition, make
sure that th e ca s ing it se lf a nd the parting plan e arc in good condi-
tion.
If necessar y, replace th e part s.

Repairing the Gear Box Shafts
Wa sh and examine a ll the sh afts , check the bea ring s, the t eet h
of the gears and of the splined joint s. Th e gears on th e seconda ry
s
haft must rotate freely, witho ut seizing, and lh e te e th of the gear-
shift sleeves mu st not be too mu ch worn.
If some of lhe pa rts are found to be defective, repl ace them, ca r-
~ o ryi ng out th e n ecessary di smantli ng and assemb ling of the sh afts.

in sta ll the fourth speed gear on the knife-edges of an app li ance
TI Y -1 697 a nd pre ss out the s haft thro ugh a mandr el 0-1696 (Fig . 27),
remove the gl and coupling, paperboard gasl<et, bearing and gear
from the shaft;
remove th e key from th e slot;
insta ll the third speed gear on the knife-ed ges of the same app li-
ance, press o ut th e sh aft and remove the gear.
