1. REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF THE ENGINE TOGETHER
WITH GEAR BOX
To remove the engine toget her with the gear box from the motor-
cycle, proceed as fo ll ows:
drain petrol from the petrol tank;
place the motorcycle on a support;
remove the petrol tank ( refer to Section 5);
un screw th e nut s of the studs securing the e ngin e at the lower
points;
remo\·e lhe silencers and ex hau st pipes (re fe r to Section 4);
re move the footsteps;
r emove the air filter (refer to Section 4);
lake down the st orage battery (refer to Section 11);
disconnect th e wires from the generator te rminal s;
disconn ect the l ow -t ens ion wire;
disconnect the wire from th e e ngin e oil pressure transmitter;
disconnect the wire of the gear box neu tr al position pick-up;
take clown th e carburetior covers, extract the carb ur ettor thrott-
les, disconnect the gas grip cables from the throttl e bodies, re-install
th e covers and throttles of carburettors;
di sconnect th e a dju st ing bolts of c lutch cable from lhe clutch re-
lease l eve r at the gear box and from th e abutment s top of clutch
cable s heath;
unscrew t he bolt of s peedomet er dri ve bus hing, take out the spee-
dometer drive and draw it aside , insert the bolt back in place;
un sc rew the nuts of the studs secur ing th e eng ine at th e upper
points, remov e the wire connected to "earth" from the s tud;
unscrew th e nut of the sidecar rod bracket by a few turns and
slight ly rai se lhe engine fastening plate;
ha v ing engaged the first gear, turn the prop e ller s haft by means
of the sta rting pedal, ensu.ring that the pins of the ilcxib le uni versal
joint disk, which enter the rubber coupling, are arranged in a hori-
L:o ntal pl ane;
extract the r ear s tud sec uring the engine;
ext ract the front stud secur ing th e engine and, by tilting the e n-
gine to the right so that lhe generator is at the right-hand side of
the frame crest, s lightly raise th e engine and move it out to the
left.
The e ngine should be removed by two pe rsons. On removing the
engi ne with th e gear box, place it on a mounting s upport for engine
TlC5-1252.
To install the engine together with the gear box into the motor-
cycle frame, foliO\\. the procedure reverse to that of dismantling.
