4.5.2 Saving the Current Position
If you wish to save your current position as a waypoint, with the GPS acquired, press and hold the WP key for
three seconds, “Add Wayp” will appear for F1, press F1 key to confirm. The current coordinates will be stored in
the memory as a waypoint, and the 6030 will give a double beep as confirmation. The 6030 uses the letter M
(for mark) for the first character of the waypoint name along with the date and time. Example: M.22.04 11:16:49
for 22 April 11 hrs. 16 minutes 49 seconds (UTC). Of course this waypoint name can be changed to a more
meaningful name in the Waypoint menu. For more information on this please refer to Section 4.5.3,
Editing/Entering Waypoints.
4.5.3 Waypoints
It is considerably easier to add waypoints to your 6030 using a PC and software that manages waypoints – such
as FlyChart, SeeYou or GPSDump – or by downloading them from a meet director/scorekeeper. However, you
can add waypoints to your list or edit existing ones using the 6030 keypad. To show the list of waypoints stored
in the 6030, highlight Waypoints in the Main Setup Menu and press the OK key. To add a waypoint, see
Section 5.7.5, Inserting Waypoints, below. All waypoints are arranged in alphabetical order.
If the 6030 waypoint list contains more than eight waypoints, there will be a
down arrow at the lower right edge of the list to show that additional pages of
waypoints follow. To scroll down one page at a time, press the $arrow;
waypoints 9 to 16 will now appear, and so on.
To edit a waypoint: select it with "!keys from the waypoint list and press
the OK key. After pressing the OK key, the first letter of the waypoint name
will blink; you can now change the first letter of the name of the waypoint by
using the !" keys. There are numbers and letters, as well as a set of
special symbols, to choose from. With the F1 key you can switch between
capital and lower case letters, and numbers. By pressing the $ key you
acknowledge the character and move forward to the next character. A
waypoint name can be up to seventeen characters long. Once the waypoint
name has been changed (or left as is), confirm the name by pressing OK. The
blinking cursor will now advance to the waypoint’s altitude field and the value
can be altered in the same manner as above. Confirm any changes that you
have made, or accept the existing value by pressing the OK key. Important:
the characters $ * ! \ ^ ~ are not available since they are reserved for use in the .igc file.
The blinking cursor will now advance to the degrees/minutes portion of the waypoint latitude. The value can be
changed with the "! keys. Holding the "! keys down will change the values rapidly. Once the desired
degrees/minutes appear, confirm by pressing the OK key. The cursor will now advance to the decimal minutes
field and can be similarly set. Change the value as necessary and confirm, once again, with the OK key. The
blinking cursor advances to the waypoint longitude, which can be altered and confirmed in the same manner as
the latitude. Note: Cylinder radius for any waypoint can only be set in the Competition Route.
To delete a waypoint: select it with "!keys from the waypoint list and press the F2 (Del Wayp) key. To be on
the safe side, the 6030 will ask for confirmation by showing, “Delete Waypoint?”. Use the "! keys to switch
from No to Yes, and press the OK key. The deletion process can be stopped by pressing ESC key. The entire
waypoint list can be deleted using Menu>Clear/Initialize memory>Delete all WP & Routes.
To add a waypoint: press the F1 (Ins Wayp) key when the 6030 is displaying the waypoint list. Enter the
waypoint name, altitude, and position as described above. After confirming all field entries with the OK key, the
new waypoint is added to the waypoint list. A total of 200 waypoints (displayed in alphabetical order) can be
stored in the 6030.
Import/export waypoint lists: The 6030 waypoint list can be saved to the SD card in Menu>SD-Card.
Similarly, a waypoint lists can loaded into the 6030 from the SD card also in the SD-Card menu. With this
feature, waypoint lists can be easily shared between 6030 pilots and a waypoint list in a 6030 can be saved to
the SD card prior to loading a new list so that it can be retrieved for later use. Waypoint lists can be saved to the
SD card via a PC in GPS eXchange format (.gpx) and then imported into the 6030. Note: the SD card must be
formatted FAT or FAT16.
Note: Any newly entered waypoints can only be used after you have switched back to the normal run-mode by
short-pressing the ESC key. In addition, you cannot enter new waypoints into an existing route if it is active. If
the route is active, first enter Route mode by pressing and holding the Route key, then press the F2 (Cancel
Route) key to deactivate the route.
