discussed above (the point where the 6030 switches to the Flight Analysis page). With this feature, the
instrument is in compliance for world records as stated in FAI Sporting Code Section 7 part D.
It is possible to set a marker in the track log of a flight by pressing the Mrk key for 3 seconds. Of course the
GPS must be acquired and flight acceptance must have occurred. The marker will be set in the E record in the
IGC file.
Important: Since the proof of a completed flight depends entirely on the GPS recording, it is important to
ensure that the GPS receiver has good reception (at least 4 satellites) before takeoff. Therefore the 6030 should
be turned on several minutes before takeoff to help ensure that the GPS is fully acquired.
6.1.1 Graphic Display of Flights - Map page
The track log of saved flights can be viewed on the 6030 display. Go to
the Flight Analysis page (see steps above) and then press F1 (Show
Map). The track log appears on the display. North is located at the top,
and waypoints are displayed with a + sign and the name. The map scale
is displayed in the lower right corner of the map. The view can be
changed as follows:
F2: Zoom In: The scale of the map is halved each time the Zoom In
key is pressed, to a maximum of 0.2 mi. Thus individual circles during
a climbing period will be clearly recognizable (depending on the
recording interval setting).
F1: Zoom Out: The map scale is doubled each time the Zoom Out
key is pressed, to a maximum scale of 29.5 mi. Thus the complete
flight can be seen on the display (except for particularly long flights).
#!"$: Pan: With these the plotted area can be shifted up, down,
left and right.
OK: From any view, jump back to display the complete flight.
ESC: Back to the Main Setup Menu. Any other key will cause the track in the current flight to be redrawn.
Note: When the pan and zoom functions are used it will take a few moments to redraw the map/track (“Wait”
and “Ready” will correspondingly appear in the Information Field). If a zoom or pan key is pressed while a map
is being redrawn, the original redraw will be suspended and will start over again with new pan/zoom selection.
This allows you to quickly view the desired section of the map.
6.2 Flight Verification for Competition, OLC and World Records
Flights stored in the 6030 are saved in a secure IGC (International Gliding Committee) format and can be
downloaded to flight verification programs to score a competition flight, participate in on-line contest, or prove a
record flight. Flight data including time/date, GPS coordinates, GPS and pressure altitude, and speed are
recorded at a preset interval. This interval can be set in Menu>Pilot settings>Recording>Record interval. Also
contained in the IGC file are the takeoff and landing points, the declared route (Competition Route), the user-set
pilot and aircraft information and instrument information. Important: The Competition Route must be activated
prior to takeoff to be included in the IGC file (C-record).
At the completion of a flight, the 6030 automatically generates a tamper resistant Digital Signature and saves it
within the IGC file (G-Record). During this process the 6030 will display Generating Digital Signaturein the
Information Field. If only one character of the flight data contained in the IGC file were altered, this signature
would no longer be valid and the judging committee would be aware of the manipulation.
This calculation to create the digital signature is very complicated and can take up to several minutes to
complete for a long flight with a frequent record interval. Due to this complexity it is possible that an error is
made when generating the signature. In this case a scoring program my reject the flight. However, in most
cases, this can be remedied by going to the Flight Analysis page of the flight and pressing F2 (Recal Sign.) to
recalculate the Digital Signature. After the Digital Signature is recreated re-download the flight to the scoring
program.
