Basic software procedures
5.2.4 Checking management master/slave behavior
I This task applies, if two management blades are installed in the system
unit.
When a management blade is replaced, the new one takes on the slave role. To
verify whether the new management blade is OK, you must switch/change the
master/slave assignment and verify the settings of the master.
I Switching/changing the master/slave roles of the management blades is
a noisy process (approx. 78 dB), as it causes the fans to briefly run at
maximum power.
Ê Open the Components – System – Management Blades – Management Blade-x
menu for the slave management blade.
Ê Open the Configuration tab.
Ê In the Switch Management Role box, click the Switch Role button.
Ê Click the Confirm Switch Role button.
The following message will be displayed:
Changed role of Management Blade-x by user operation.
Ê Open the Information tab.
Ê Verify the management blade settings.
I If you are constantly switching/changing the master/slave assignment,
make sure you wait at least three minutes between each
switching/changing, otherwise the state of the server blades cannot be
determined. If this occurs, reset both master and slave with the reset
button.
