17.3 Buffer Battery
Introduction The buffer battery ...
Is the power source for the RAM when the machine is switched off.
Is located inside the MC.
Has a rated voltage of 3 V.
Has a typical service life of 3 to 5 years.
For safeguarding the RAM, an additional capacitor (Gold cap) was integrated onto the PCB of the
iTNC. This capacitor stores the RAM content for approx. one day without batteries.
The following information is stored in the battery-buffered memory:
Non-volatile PLC operands
Most recent log entries
Information about the trace function
Information about program interruption
Information from absolute encoders with EnDat interface
Information about the boot process
Information about errors
Message
Figure: "Exchange buffer battery" message after power-on
If the voltage of the buffer battery falls below 2.6 V the error message
Exchange buffer battery appears.
The error message is activated every 30 minutes.
Exchange the buffer battery as soon as possible!
