For lightning protection, the AC power should be led through an external lightning device into a
12500 switch. For more information, see "Appendix D Lightning protection."
Make sure the power switch on the power frame is in the OFF position.
For personal and switch safety, do not connect the power cords with the power. Power off the
grounding strip, connect the power cords, power on the grounding strip, and then power on the
switch.
Connecting an AC power cord
Each socket on a PEM corresponds to a power supply slot. Sockets numbered 1 through 6 supply power
to the power supplies in slots 1 through 6, respectively. If slot 1 holds a power supply, the number 1
receptacle on the PEM must be connected to a power source with an AC power cord to make the power
supply operate properly.
CAUTION:
Typically 10 A busbars are available in the equipment room but the PEM on the 12500 requires a 16
A
power cord (AC), so you need to use a 16 A busbar, and ensure that the AC power supply system can
provide enough power. For AC power cords used in different countries or regions, see the chapter
“Appendix A Technical specifications.”
A 12508 has one power cord cabling rack and a 12518 has two power cord cabling racks. The power
cord connection is similar. This section takes a 12508 as an example.
To connect power cords:
1. Align the mounting holes of the cabling rack with the standoffs on the PEM front panel, and fixed
the cabling rack on the PEM with bolts.
2. Insert one end of a power cord to the left most PEM socket.
3. Insert a cable tie through the hole under the Z-shape cabling component, and arrange the power
cord along the U-shape and Z-shape cabling components.
4. Use the cable tie to tie the power cord.
5. Repeat Steps 2 to 4 to tie the other power cords to the cabling rack.
6. Connect the other end of each AC power cord to the power source.
