Ifyousetapower-onpasswordforauserandanadministratorpasswordforasystemadministrator,you
musttypethepower-onpasswordtocompletethesystemstartup.Asystemadministratorwhotypesthe
administratorpasswordhasaccesstothefullSetuputilitymenu;thesystemadministratorcangivetheuser
authoritytoset,change,anddeletethepower-onpassword.Auserwhotypesthepower-onpasswordhas
accesstoonlythelimitedSetuputilitymenu;theusercanset,change,anddeletethepower-onpassword,if
thesystemadministratorhasgiventheuserthatauthority.
Power-onpassword
Ifapower-onpasswordisset,whenyouturnontheserver,youmusttypethepower-onpasswordto
completethesystemstartup.Youcanuseanycombinationof6-20printableASCIIcharactersforthe
password.
Whenapower-onpasswordisset,youcanenabletheUnattendedStartmode,inwhichthekeyboardand
mouseremainlockedbuttheoperatingsystemcanstart.Youcanunlockthekeyboardandmouseby
typingthepower-onpassword.
Ifyouforgetthepower-onpassword,youcanregainaccesstotheserverinanyofthefollowingways:
•Ifanadministratorpasswordisset,typetheadministratorpasswordatthepasswordprompt.Startthe
Setuputilityandresetthepower-onpassword.
Attention:Ifyousetanadministratorpasswordandthenforgetit,thereisnowaytochange,override,or
removeit.Youmustreplacethesystemboard.
•Removethebatteryfromtheserver,wait30seconds,andthenreinstallit.
•Changethepositionofthepower-onpasswordswitch(enableswitch2ofthesystemboardswitch
block(SW1)tobypassthepasswordcheck(see“System-boardswitchesandjumpers”onpage27
formoreinformation).
Attention:Beforeyouchangeanyswitchsettingsormoveanyjumpers,turnofftheserver;then,
disconnectallpowercordsandexternalcables.Seethesafetyinformationthatbegins“Safety”onpage
v
.Donotchangesettingsormovejumpersonanysystem-boardswitchorjumperblocksthatare
notshowninthisdocument.
ThedefaultforalloftheswitchesonswitchblockSW1isOff.
Whiletheserveristurnedoff,moveswitch2oftheswitchblockSW1totheOnpositiontoenablethe
power-onpasswordoverride.YoucanthenstarttheSetuputilityandresetthepower-onpassword.You
donothavetoreturntheswitchtothepreviousposition.
Thepower-onpasswordoverrideswitchdoesnotaffecttheadministratorpassword.
Administratorpassword
Ifanadministratorpasswordisset,youmusttypetheadministratorpasswordforaccesstothefullSetup
utilitymenu.Youcanuseanycombinationof6to20printableASCIIcharactersforthepassword.
Attention:Ifyousetanadministratorpasswordandthenforgetit,thereisnowaytochange,override,
orremoveit.Youmustreplacethesystemboard.
