Solvingpowerproblems
Usethisinformationtosolvepowerproblems.
Powerproblemscanbedifficulttosolve.Forexample,ashortcircuitcanexistanywhereonanyofthe
powerdistributionbuses.Usually,ashortcircuitwillcausethepowersubsystemtoshutdownbecauseof
anovercurrentcondition.Todiagnoseapowerproblem,usethefollowinggeneralprocedure:
Step1.Turnofftheserveranddisconnectallpowercords.
Step2.Checkforloosecablesinthepowersubsystem.Alsocheckforshortcircuits,forexample,ifa
loosescrewiscausingashortcircuitonacircuitboard.
Step3.TurnontheserverandcheckthelitLEDsonthesystemboard(see“System-boardLEDs”on
page29).
Step4.Turnofftheserveranddisconnectallpowercords.
Step5.Removetheadaptersanddisconnectthecablesandpowercordstoallinternalandexternal
devicesuntiltheserverisattheminimumconfigurationthatisrequiredfortheservertostart(see
“Solvingundeterminedproblems”onpage141).
Step6.Reconnectallacpowercordsandturnontheserver.Iftheserverstartssuccessfully,reseatthe
adaptersanddevicesoneatatimeuntiltheproblemisisolated.
