Serverpowerfeatures
Whentheserverisconnectedtoanacpowersourcebutisnotturnedon,theoperatingsystemdoesnot
run,andallcorelogicexceptfortheIntegratedManagementModuleII(IMM2)isshutdown.
However,theservercanrespondtorequestsfromIntegratedManagementModuleII(IMM2),suchasa
remoterequesttoturnontheserver.Thepower-onLEDflashestoindicatethattheserverisconnectedto
acpowerbutisnotturnedon.
Turningontheserver
Usethisinformationtoturnontheserver.
Approximately5secondsaftertheserverisconnectedtoacpower,oneormorefansmightstartrunning
toprovidecoolingwhiletheserverisconnectedtopowerandthepower-onbuttonLEDwillblinkquickly.
Approximately1to3minutesaftertheserverisconnectedtoacpower,thepower-controlbuttonbecomes
active(thepower-onLEDwillblinkslowly),andoneormorefansmightstartrunningtoprovidecoolingwhile
theserverisconnectedtopower.Youcanturnontheserverbypressingthepower-controlbutton.
Step1.Pressthepower-onbuttontoturnontheserver.
Step2.Theservercanalsobeturnedoninanyofthefollowingways:
•Ifapowerfailureoccurswhiletheserveristurnedon,theserverwillrestartautomaticallywhen
powerisrestored.
•IfyouroperatingsystemsupportstheWakeonLANfeature,theWakeonLANfeaturecanturn
ontheserver.
Note:When4GBormoreofmemory(physicalorlogical)isinstalled,somememoryisreserved
forvarioussystemresourcesandisunavailabletotheoperatingsystem.Theamountofmemory
thatisreservedforsystemresourcesdependsontheoperatingsystem,theconfigurationofthe
server,andtheconfiguredPCIoptions.
Turningofftheserver
Usethisinformationtoturnofftheserver.
Whenyouturnofftheserverandleaveitconnectedtoacpower,theservercanrespondtorequestsfrom
IntegratedManagementModuleII(IMM2),suchasaremoterequesttoturnontheserver.Whiletheserver
remainsconnectedtoacpower,oneormorefansmightcontinuetorun.Toremoveallpowerfromthe
server,youmustdisconnectitfromthepowersource.
Someoperatingsystemsrequireanorderlyshutdownbeforeyouturnofftheserver.Seeyour
operating-systemdocumentationforinformationaboutshuttingdowntheoperatingsystem.
