Ifyouarereplacingaservercomponentintheserver,youneedtoslidetheserveroutfromtherack
enclosure,turnofftheserverandperipheraldevices,anddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables.
Attention:Staticelectricitythatisreleasedtointernalservercomponentswhentheserverispowered-on
mightcausetheservertohalt,whichmightresultinthelossofdata.Toavoidthispotentialproblem,
alwaysuseanelectrostatic-dischargewriststraporothergroundingsystemwhenyouworkinsidethe
serverwiththepoweron.
Toremoveasystemfan,completethefollowingsteps.

Step3.Removetheairbaffleifinstalled(see“Removingtheairbaffle”onpage159).
Step4.Removethefailedfanfromtheserver:
a.Disconnectthefancablefromthesystemboard.Notetheroutingofthefancabletothe
connector;youwillhavetoroutethefancablethesamewaywhenyouinstallthefan.
b.Graspthetopofthefanwithyourindexfingerandthumbandliftthefanoutoftheserver.
