•TheserversupportsoneIntellandgridarray(LGA)1150dual-coreorquad-coremicroprocessor.The
type,speed,andL3cacheofthemicroprocessordependsontheservermodel.
•Readthedocumentationthatcomeswiththemicroprocessortodeterminewhetheryouhave
toupdatetheserverfirmware.Todownloadthemostcurrentlevelofserverfirmware,goto

•Themicroprocessorusesanintegratedvoltageregulatoronthesystemboard.
Attention:
•Microprocessorsaretobeinstalledonlybytrainedtechnicians.
•Donotallowthethermalgreaseonthemicroprocessorandheatsinktocomeincontactwithanything.
Contactwithanysurfacecancompromisethethermalgreaseandthemicroprocessorsocket.
•Droppingthemicroprocessorduringinstallationorremovalcandamagethecontacts.
•Donottouchthemicroprocessorcontacts;handlethemicroprocessorbytheedgesonly.Contaminants
onthemicroprocessorcontacts,suchasoilfromyourskin,cancauseconnectionfailuresbetween
thecontactsandthesocket.
•Thepinsonthesocketsarefragile.Anydamagetothepinsmightrequirereplacingthesystemboard.

Ifyouarereplacingaservercomponentintheserver,youneedtoslidetheserveroutfromtherack
enclosure,turnofftheserverandperipheraldevices,anddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables.
Toremoveamicroprocessorandheatsink,completethefollowingsteps.
Step1.Removethecover(see“Removingthecover”onpage157).
Step2.Removetheairbaffleifinstalled(see“Removingtheairbaffle”onpage159).
Step3.Removetheheatsink:

a.Loosenthescrewsandalternateamongthescrewsuntiltheybreakthesealwiththe
microprocessor.
b.Pressfirmlyonthecaptivescrewsandloosenthemwithascrewdriver.
c.Useyourfingerstogentlypulltheheatsinkfromthemicroprocessor.
