Usingtheembeddedhypervisor
TheVMwareESXiembeddedhypervisorsoftwareisavailableontheoptionalLenovoUSBflashdevicewith
embeddedhypervisor.
TheUSBflashdevicecanbeinstalledinUSBconnectorsonthesystemboard(see“System-boardinternal
connectors”onpage26forthelocationoftheconnectors).Hypervisorisvirtualizationsoftwarethatenables
multipleoperatingsystemstorunonahostsystematthesametime.TheUSBflashdeviceisrequiredto
activatethehypervisorfunctions.
Tostartusingtheembeddedhypervisorfunctions,youmustaddtheUSBflashdevicetothestartup
sequenceintheSetuputility.
ToaddtheUSBflashdevicetothestartupsequence,completethefollowingsteps:
Step1.Turnontheserver.
Note:Approximately5to10secondsaftertheserverisconnectedtopower,thepower-control
buttonbecomesactive.
Step2.Whentheprompt<F1>Setupisdisplayed,pressF1.
Step3.FromtheSetuputilitymainmenu,selectBootManager.
Step4.SelectAddBootOption;then,selectGenericBootOption➙EmbeddedHypervisor.Press
Enter,andthenselectEsc.
Step5.SelectChangeBootOrder➙Changetheorder.UsetheUparrowandDownArrowkeys
toselectEmbeddedHypervisorandusetheplus(+)andminus(-)keystomoveEmbedded
Hypervisorinthebootorder.WhenEmbeddedHypervisorisinthecorrectlocationintheboot
order,pressEnter.SelectCommitChangesandpressEnter.
Step6.SelectSaveSettingsandthenselectExitSetup.

toa10Mbps,100Mbps,or1Gbpsnetworkandprovidefull-duplex(FDX)capability,whichenables
simultaneoustransmissionandreceptionofdataonthenetwork.IftheEthernetportsintheserversupport
auto-negotiation,thecontrollersdetectthedata-transferrate(10BASE-T,100BASE-TX,or1000BASE-T)and
duplexmode(full-duplexorhalf-duplex)ofthenetworkandautomaticallyoperateatthatrateandmode.
Youdonothavetosetanyjumpersorconfigurethecontrollers.However,youmustinstalladevicedriverto
