•Orangeonacomponentoranorangelabelonornearacomponentindicatesthatthecomponentcanbe
hot-swapped,whichmeansthatiftheserverandoperatingsystemsupporthot-swapcapability,youcan
removeorinstallthecomponentwhiletheserverisrunning.(Orangecanalsoindicatetouchpointson
hot-swapcomponents.)Seetheinstructionsforremovingorinstallingaspecifichot-swapcomponentfor
anyadditionalproceduresthatyoumighthavetoperformbeforeyouremoveorinstallthecomponent.
•Whenyouarefinishedworkingontheserver,reinstallallsafetyshields,guards,labels,andgroundwires.
Systemreliabilityguidelines
Thesystemreliabilityguidelinesaretoensurepropersystemcooling.
Tohelpensurepropersystemcoolingandsystemreliability,makesurethatthefollowingrequirements
aremet:
•Eachofthedrivebayshasadriveorafillerpanelandelectromagneticcompatibility(EMC)shield
installedinit.
•Iftheserverhasredundantpower,eachofthepower-supplybayshasapowersupplyinstalledinit.
•Thereisadequatespacearoundtheservertoallowtheservercoolingsystemtoworkproperly.Leave
approximately50mm(2.0in.)ofopenspacearoundthefrontandrearoftheserver.Donotplace
objectsinfrontofthefans.Forpropercoolingandairflow,replacetheservercoverbeforeyouturnon
theserver.Operatingtheserverforextendedperiodsoftime(morethan30minutes)withtheserver
coverremovedmightdamageservercomponents.
•Youhavefollowedthecablinginstructionsthatcomewithoptionaladapters.
•Youhavereplacedafailedfanassoonaspossible.
•Youhavereplacedahot-swapdrivewithin2minutesofremoval.
•Youdonotoperatetheserverwithouttheairbaffleinstalled.Operatingtheserverwithouttheairbaffle
mightcausethemicroprocessortooverheat.
Workinginsidetheserverwiththepoweron
Guidelinestoworkinsidetheserverwiththepoweron.
Attention:Staticelectricitythatisreleasedtointernalservercomponentswhentheserverispowered-on
mightcausetheservertohalt,whichmightresultinthelossofdata.Toavoidthispotentialproblem,
alwaysuseanelectrostatic-dischargewriststraporothergroundingsystemwhenyouworkinsidethe
serverwiththepoweron.
Youmighthavetohavetheserverturnedonwhilethecoverisoff,tolookatsystem-boardLEDsorreplace
hot-swapcomponents.Followtheseguidelineswhenyouworkinsideaserverthatisturnedon:
•Avoidwearingloose-fittingclothingonyourforearms.Buttonlong-sleevedshirtsbeforeworkinginside
theserver;donotwearcufflinkswhileyouareworkinginsidetheserver.
•Donotallowyournecktieorscarftohanginsidetheserver.
•Removejewelry,suchasbracelets,necklaces,rings,andloose-fittingwristwatches.
•Removeitemsfromyourshirtpocket,suchaspensandpencils,thatcouldfallintotheserverasyou
leanoverit.
•Avoiddroppinganymetallicobjects,suchaspaperclips,hairpins,andscrews,intotheserver.
