5.3.3 J10 – RS – 232 Communications
This DB-9F connector provides general purpose RS-232 access to the SMC. Although it presents as a
device COM port (DB-9F), in Revision C of the I/O board, it is configured as a Host COM port as shown
in the diagram below. It is appropriate in most circumstances to use a null-modem adapter for direct
connectivity in a system. A null-modem adapter swaps pins 2 & 3 and 3 & 8, permitting a direct
male/female extension cord connection from a PC.
Revision C of the Auxiliary I/O module is supplied with such an adapter pre-assembled to J10.
Note: Pins 10 and 11 in the following drawing are a connector shell.
