8.4 LOCAL LASER MODULATION CONTROL
This High-power Laser Adapter provides support for generating a laser modulation signal without the
SMC being involved. This mode of operation is intended for service applications where remote
control of the laser on/off state and power are needed during optical system alignment. It is possible
to connect a cable with a potentiometer and open/close switch to use this mode. When the switch is
closed, the local modulation feature is enabled. The variable resistor adjusts the duty cycle of the
pulse waveform, and hence the laser power. The following figure illustrates how to attach an
external cable assembly that enables this feature.
Note: This modulation control only affects the differential modulation outputs LASER_MOD_DP and
LASER_MOD_DN on Connector J3 and the single-ended modulation output LASER_MOD on BNC
Connector J5.
