17.2 AI prefix codes
AI prefix codes can be used in the code data. They define the meaning and the format of the
data that follows.
For example, the AI for batch number is “10”, and the batch number AI is always followed by
an alphanumeric batch code not to exceed 20 characters.
AI prefix code “01”:
• “01” is placed at the beginning of the code data, except when used in the code data of
GS1-128. For this bar code, “01” is placed after FNC1.
• GS1-128, GS1 DataBar Limited, GS1 DataBar Stacked, GS1 DataMatrix:
The AI prefix code “01” is followed by 13 numeric digits. The check digit is appended
automatically next to the 13th digit.
