9180 Electrolyte Analyzer 6 Installation and shutdown
Installation
o Locate the sample sensor cable and ensure that it is securely inserted in the
receptacle above the measuring chamber. Check that an o-ring is present in the
right electrode holder.
Figure 6-6
Now install the electrodes in the measuring chamber, beginning on the right and
working to the left (the reference electrode will be installed last).
WARNING
Incorrect patient results due to bad electrode installation
Installing electrodes in incorrect measuring chamber positions may lead to incorrect
patient results, which may endanger patient lives.
r Confirm that the electrode order with the sheet found on the inside of the analyzer
before closing the measuring chamber.
r Perform QC tests on 3 levels after replacing the electrodes.
q
The electrode in the rightmost position may be one of the following: chloride, calcium,
lithium, or a dummy electrode, if no third test is needed. If sodium and lithium are selected,
the potassium electrode is replaced by a dummy electrode.
o Check to make sure that the lettering on the electrode corresponds with the
proper electrode station number on the tray. Also, note that all electrodes have a
lip on the bottom that rests on the flat edge of the measuring chamber to aid in
proper positioning.
