pressure
The following description only applies to
engines with an injection pump.

Measuring the compression pressure is used as a
step in troubleshooting. If an engine is running
unevenly, this measurement may indicate
whether one or more cylinders is worn or
damaged. There may be damage to the cylinder
head valves, cylinder liners or piston rings. The
measurement indicates which cylinder(s) should
be subject to further testing.
The results are only intended for comparison
between the cylinders. Lower compression in
one or more of the cylinders is a sign of
abnormal wear or damage.
