Determining the
Firmware Version in
Your Relay
To find the firmware revision number in your relay, view the status report
using the serial port STATUS command or the front-panel {STATUS}
pushbutton. For firmware versions prior to October 4, 1999, for the
SEL-387-5 Relay or June 29, 2000, for the SEL-387-0 Relay, the status report
displays the Firmware Identification (FID) label:
FID=SEL-387-x-Rxxx-Vx-Dxxxxxx
For firmware versions with the date code of October 4, 1999 (SEL-387-5), or
June 29, 2000 (SEL-387-0), or later, the FID label will appear as follows with
the Part/Revision number in bold:
FID=SEL-387-x-Rxxx-Vx-Z001001-Dxxxxxxxx
The FID string is included near the top of each long event report, and is also
available using the STA or SER serial port commands. Part of it is available
using the {STATUS} pushbutton, as noted above. The firmware revision number
follows the “R” and the release date follows the “D.” The single “x” after
“SEL-387-” is the relay number and will be a 0, 5, or 6, depending on the
relay features ordered:
For example:
FID=SEL-387-5-R602-V0-Z003003-D20020118
is SEL-387-5 Relay firmware revision number 602, which was released on
January 18, 2002.
Table A.1 lists firmware versions, a description of firmware modifications, and
the instruction manual date codes that correspond to firmware versions. The
most recent firmware version is listed first.
x = 0 Standard features
x = 5 Standard features, harmonic restraint
x = 6 Standard features, harmonic restraint, thermal element
