Preparations
• See Preparing to Use VCR on page 52.
• If necessary, set “SAP” on the menu screen. (See MTS (Multi-
channel TV Sound) Broadcasts Recordings on page 64.)
Without a Cable Box
1 Insert a cassette, with the erasure protection tab covered. (See
Cassette Erase Protection on next page.)
2 Press TAPE SPEED to set the recording speed (SP or EP). (See
Recording Speeds on next page.)
SP or EP will appear in the VCR Front Panel display.
3 Select the desired channel with CH ' / " or the number
buttons on the remote control.

ÆREC. (If the erasure protection tab has been removed, a
cassette will be ejected.)
5 To stop recording, press ËSTOP.
• To pause recording during the REC mode, press âPAUSE/STILL
on the remote control. To resume recording, press âPAUSE/STILL

ÆREC. (Pause disengages automatically after about 5 minutes
to avoid damage to the tape and the Unit, and stop mode is
engaged.)
With a Cable Box

3 Set the TV and VCR channels to output CH of cable box.
4 Set the cable box to the desired channel to record.

• You will be unable to watch a scrambled channel while recording.
• It is not necessary to set the clock to use this recording operation.
• “PAUSE” will flash on the TV screen if âPAUSE/STILL is pressed in
stop mode. Press ËSTOP to disengage the pause mode or press

• The Unit can record a TV program even with the TV turned off.
